Steve Jobs is No Longer the CEO of Apple

Steve Jobs is the co-founder of the giant tech company, Apple Inc. He was the CEO of the company until Wednesday 25th 2011. He resigned from its position without specifying a clear reason but a lot of people speculate that the health problems are behind his real decision.
He himself wrote in a letter that was addressed to the Apple committee and to the entire world that went like this: “I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come”.
We first saw the possibility of a resignation in 2004 when Steve Job was diagnosed with cancer and for the first time the public realized that his condition was getting worse. Despite his condition, he will still remain as a chairman of the board which will allow him to continue its contribution, although not in the way he would as a chief executive. Jobs also said that “I believe Apple’s brightness and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role”.
Jobs proposed a new CEO, who now is the Apple’s chief operating officer, Tim Cook. Cook was in charge of the company for a brief period of time when Jobs was absent due to health problems. This is considered a very logical succession.
In January, when Steve Jobs announced that he will take an indefinite leave of absence because of his medical condition, everyone expected a really serious turn around for the company since few people thought he will be able to continue working for Apple.
In 2004, Jobs stepped down from the leadership of the company during his severe condition caused by pancreatic cancer. In July 2009 Steve Jobs returned as the CEO, after a liver transplant operation and people knew back then that the long-term health of this incredible man was clinging. At his 56 years of age, his commitment to the company is very admirable. As soon as he was able to work, he got back and continue to lead the company. Not that many chief executives are that linked to their companies as Steve Jobs is. He had a very important role in developing iPhone, iPod and iPad.
Although the company’s stock value went down with the newly named interim CEO, Apple reassures us that the quality of their products will not be affected by this change and that Steve Jobs will still remain a great source of inspiration and leadership through his position of chairman of the board. Mr. Levinson said: “The Board has complete confidence that Tim is the right person to be our next CEO … Tim’s 13 years of service to Apple have been marked by outstanding performance, and he has demonstrated remarkable talent and sound judgment in everything he does”.
These are definitely not good news, but they aren’t bad either. Eventually, Steve Jobs would of quit his position as a natural occurrence. Will this mean all people will send their iPhones to cell phone recycling companies? Very unlikely. We shouldn’t except anything less than what we are used to from Apple from now on. Steve Jobs did an amazing job, a duty that few people on the planet could ever do it, but the time has come to move on and let the others take on the legacy.
